Did you know that all of the Chamber's #StudentSquad interns are part of the Berkley High School DECA program?
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management through competitive events, leadership development, and real-world business experiences. From March 5-7, students from Berkley High School’s DECA chapter competed at the Michigan DECA State Career Development Conference.
The BHS DECA chapter brought 63 competitors to the conference, demonstrating exceptional skill and preparation. Of those students, 33 earned finalist medals, recognizing them as top performers in their respective events. In addition, 13 BHS students qualified to advance to the international level, earning the opportunity to represent Michigan at the DECA International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, scheduled for April 24-29, 2026.
We are so proud of all of our interns that competed, especially those who qualified for internationals. We'd like to give a special shout out to the Chamber's four seniors on the #StudentSquad: Salman Abdella, Leif Schoof, Alex Sims, and Tayla Steczek.
"I can't begin to describe how special all of these students are. They've made a big impact in the Chamber and community, and with me personally. No bull—the #StudentSquad is the best," said Tara Heitz, Intern Director with the Berkley Area Chamber.
