Business: Red Hots Chili
What do you love most about Berkley?
I love the feel of community. My kids are in the Berkley school system. We love being able to walk to amazing food establishments and enjoy shopping at local stores. We appreciate all of the family events throughout the year as well!
What inspired you to start your business?
My family owned a Coney Island called Red Hots, which was located in Highland Park, Michigan. It opened in 1921, and my parents wanted to retire so the coney closed in 2021 after our 100-year celebration. I worked there 24-years and decided to continue the legacy of our chili recipe by selling it at retail. I'm excited to continue on our legacy as 4th generation!
When you’re not working, what do you do that brings you joy?
Besides being with my family, I am a Special Education teacher. I also organize and run food tours throughout Detroit, where we get to highlight other small businesses!
What other Berkley business(es) would you like to give a shout out to and why?
I have to give a shout out to Woodward Corner Market. They have supported Red Hots Chili every step of the way, and the events they host are amazing!
If there was a movie about you, who would play you?
For the name alone, it would have to be the mom from Bluey, and her name is Chili!
What is your favorite food?
My favorite food has to be coneys! But I do love chocolate, cheese, and bacon!
